Midwest Security Conference

The 26th Midwest Security Conference in memory of our founder James Brodie.

We recently lost a dear friend, James L. Brodie, Age 84, past President and Life Member of the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety. Jim was a Korean War Veteran serving in both the Coast Guard and Air Force. He was a warm genuine man whose life’s mission was to make the world a safer place for all of us to live and work. Jim held many positions during his lifetime as he was dedicated to public safety. He was a former Chicago Police Detective, a Director of Public Safety at Cook County Hospital, Oak Forest Campus, a graduate of IIT with a Master in Public Administration, a past President of the Illinois Association of Hospital Security and Safety, a Life Member of the Illinois Police Association, a Life Member of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, a past President and Life Member of the South Suburban Association of Chiefs of Police, a past President and Life Member of the Illinois Security Chiefs Association, the Founder of the Midwest Security Conference, a Life Member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, a past Commander of the A.L. Brodie American Legion Post, a Life Member of the American Legion, a professor at Governor State University, an Instructor at South Suburban College City Colleges, and an instructor at City Wide Institutes and the Chicago Police Academy.

Jim was also a dedicated family man. Jim was the life partner of Janet LaGrou, a loving father of Alexander, Audrey and Jeanne Brodie. He was a dear brother of Doris Rubin and the late Louise Cooper. He was a fond uncle to many nieces and nephew. Jim was a dear friend and mentor to many. Jim’s funeral was Monday January 6, 2014. He was laid to rest at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. Rest in peace dear friend. You will be missed.

A Letter from our Chairperson:

Dear Security Professionals,

Welcome to the website of the Midwest Security Conference for 2014! We are excited to continue to provide an excellent educational opportunity for our attendees. This year as in the past, the conference will be at the SHERATON LISLE HOTEL. The conference dates are April 28th and 29th, 2014.

It seems that the challenges in the security industry are getting more complex and demanding. What technology concepts are proving to be effective? What are best practices in addressing operational challenges? How do we harness the capabilities of social media for security and emergency communications purposes? What are good training resources? What are the most recent statute and regulatory agency updates and how do these impact my institution or facility? How do I grow my career?

It is impossible to meet these challenges alone. Successful programs and professionals rely on support from good resources and relationships with experts and colleagues. We have learned that we don’t have to re-invent the wheel. We can reach out to colleagues to learn from their successes and experiences.

In line with that, this year’s conference theme is titled:

We hope our program will be able to provide links to resources and partners that can help you address your challenges and help you grow in your career.

Finally, I want to thank Illinois Security Chiefs Association and IAHSS for their support and work toward making this conference possible.

Lauris V Freidenfelds
